Before turning professional, Kafkas established himself as one of Germany’s leading amateur MMA prospects. He was ranked #1 in Germany’s amateur featherweight division by Tapology for an extended period and captured the Nextreme MMA Featherweight Championship in 2025.

Kafkas currently represents JABAL FIGHTERS in Darmstadt, Germany, where he trains under Coach Yakup.

Fighter Profile

Early Life

Kafkas was born as Muhammad Dzhanbatyrov in Dagestan, Russia, a region internationally renowned for its wrestling culture and combat sports tradition.

He began wrestling at an early age, developing the grappling foundation that would later become an important part of his fighting style.

During his childhood, Kafkas and his family relocated to Germany. He continued training in combat sports and expanded his skill set through kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts.

His combination of an early wrestling foundation and extensive striking experience ultimately shaped him into a well-rounded mixed martial artist.

Kickboxing Career

Before focusing exclusively on mixed martial arts, Kafkas competed in K-1 kickboxing at semi-professional level.

His extensive kickboxing experience helped develop his striking fundamentals, timing, distance management and composure under pressure. These qualities later became an important part of his transition into MMA.

Mixed Martial Arts Career

Amateur Career

Kafkas made his amateur MMA debut in October 2023 at GMC 35, defeating Denis Shala via first-round TKO in just 45 seconds.

Over the following years, he competed across Germany and Europe for promotions including GMC, It’s Fighttime, Infinitus Fight Night, MAXIMUS Fight Night, Cage Warriors Lowlands and Nextreme MMA.

Kafkas remained undefeated throughout his entire amateur career.

In October 2025, he defeated Levent Karpuz via unanimous decision in a dominant performance at the Nextreme MMA Final in Aalsmeer, Netherlands, becoming the Nextreme MMA Featherweight Champion.

During his rise through the European amateur scene, Kafkas reached #1 in Tapology’s Germany Amateur Featherweight Ranking and remained at the top of the ranking for an extended period.

Amateur Record: 10–0

Professional MMA Career

Kafkas made his professional MMA debut on July 4, 2026 at GMC 48 – German MMA Championship 48 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

In his professional debut, Kafkas faced experienced professional fighter Sokrates Alexanidis.

Rather than being matched against an easy opponent for his first professional appearance, Kafkas immediately faced an experienced fighter. Over three five-minute rounds, he delivered a controlled and composed performance and secured the victory via unanimous decision.

The victory marked a successful transition into the professional ranks and extended Kafkas’ undefeated MMA run.

Fighting Style

Kafkas is a well-rounded mixed martial artist who combines his extensive striking experience with the wrestling foundation developed during his early years in Dagestan.

His K-1 background provides strong distance management, timing and technical striking, while his wrestling allows him to dictate where the fight takes place.

Kafkas combines controlled pressure and technical striking with well-timed takedowns, positional control and ground-and-pound.
